In these cases, I try to minimize the amount of data collected.

Commenting on posts

This section applies if you submit a comment on a post.

What personal data I collect and process when you comment on a post

If you comment on a post, the following data will be collected and processed by WinrickLabs LLC as part of their FastComments product, which powers commenting on this website:

  • Your user name.
  • Your email.

They collect this data so they can:

  • Manage your account.
  • Send you notifications and account alerts.

As of 2 Dec 2020, their privacy policy states: “We do not share this information with any third parties or use it for any form of solicitation.”

Cookies are only saved when you comment on a post.

Retention of personal data for commenting on posts

WinrickLabs LLC will retain your email indefinitely to send you notifications. However, you can delete this information by either entering a bogus information as an email in the account edit page or by deleting your account.

Data protection rights for commenting on posts

To view the data WinrickLabs LLC has collected and processed of yours, log in to your account (see the section below for steps).

To delete individual comments, navigate to the post that contains your comment, click on the 3 dots button on the top right of the comment, and select delete. To find the post with your comment, you can log in to your account (see the section below for steps), locate the comment, and click the link that takes you to the post.

To delete all comments and your email and user name, you can delete your account. You can find this option by logging in to your account (see the section below for steps) and

To unsubscribe from email notifications, click the link in the email or log in to your account (see the section below for steps) and change your preferences.

How to log in to your account

You can log in to your account via links in the emails you receive from FastComments or by logging in using your details on the FastComments website.

Systematic Newsletter

This section applies if you subscribe to the Systematic Newsletter.

What personal data I collect and process for the Systematic Newsletter

If you subscribe to the Systematic Newsletter, I will collect your email address to send the newsletter to you.

I won’t sell, trade, or rent your email address to others.

I use your email address to send you a weekly email. The emails contain no sponsors, ads, or spam.

I use Mailchimp as my email newsletter platform. Your email address will be transferred to Mailchimp for processing. Learn more about Mailchimp’s privacy practices here.

Retention of personal data for the Systematic Newsletter

I will keep your email address for as long as you are subscribed and as long as I plan to continue the Systematic Newsletter. It may not always be sent weekly. If I decide to discontinue it, I will delete your email from my records.

If you unsubscribe, email correspondence will stop immediately and your email address will be deleted within one month.

Data protection rights for the Systematic Newsletter

If you wish to unsubscribe and/or have your email address deleted from my records, you can either:

  • Click the unsubscribe link in any of the Systematic Newsletter emails
  • Email your request to privacy@matt.fyi from the email address in question (so I know you are the owner of the email account).

Analytics

This website uses Plausible for analytics, which I chose because it is privacy-focused and open source.

What personal data I collect and process for analytics

No personal data or personally identifiable information is collected or processed. Anonymous page views and click events are collected and processed by Plausible. This is to provide me with a general idea of how people are using this site.

But this information is limited to respect your privacy. Plausible:

  • Does not use cookies or other persistent identifiers
  • Does not track you across devices, websites, or apps
  • Isolates all data to a single day

Do Not Track settings

This website respects the unofficial Do Not Track specification, even though no personally identifiable information is collected as part of its analytics.

If your browser supports this (by setting navigator.doNotTrack) and if you have it enabled, the analytics code will not be loaded.

Changes

I may update this privacy policy at any time. When I do, I will revise the updated date at the bottom of this page. Please frequently check this page for any changes to stay informed about how I am helping to protect the personal information I collect.
